Taking place on the Saturday before the famous Melbourne Cup in late October or early November, Victoria Derby Day is known as the day for ‘racing purists’ as it is the nation’s sole race day where every event holds group status.
Nine premier Group races make up the Victoria Derby Day race card every year, providing punters with a mouth-watering range of elite betting opportunities.
The marquee race at the meeting is the $1.5 million Group 1 AAMI Victoria Derby (2500m).
The Victoria Derby is Australia’s leading race for three-year-olds and attracts a quality field of promising young champions each year well worth a punt on.
The top day of thoroughbred racing is highlighted by three other Group 1 races: the $1 million Mackinnon Stakes (2000m), $500,000 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) and the $500,000 Myer Classic (1600m).
