A talented and capacity field of sixteen plus one emergency has been confirmed for Saturday’s featured 2015 Victoria Derby (2500m); offering punters great value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Tarzino has drifted slightly in 2015 Victoria Derby betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au but remains clear favourite at current $2.50 odds ahead of Kia Ora Koutou ($7.50), Lizard Island ($10) and Get The Picture ($11).
Will Tarzino justify his resounding favouritism and win the 2015 Victoria Derby or will one of his talented rivals find the line in the clear?
Tarzino carries excellent form into the 2015 Victoria Derby, appears as though he will relish a step-up to 2500m and is more than worth consideration for a bet at current odds. Taking out a pair of minor Melbourne races over 1400m and 1600m through August and September, the Tavistock colt ran on for a credible seventh in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) before savaging the line for third in the Group 2 Moonee Valley Vase (2040m) last weekend. Sure to receive a good run from a central draw, Tarzino has been confirmed to be partnered by regular hoop Craig Newitt.
Extra Choice ($12)
Tarzino’s short odds for success have ensured plenty of value for each of his competitors, and perhaps none more lucrative than those for the David Hayes and Tom Dabernig-trained Extra Choice, who currently figures at Victoria Derby odds of $12 for success or $3.70 to finish in the first three. Taking out a pair of Pakenham minors over 1200m and 1400m upon resuming this time, the Redoute’s Choice gelding failed to figure in his next two starts but will carry winning form into the Victoria Derby after charging home to win the Listed Geelong Classic (2200m) last week. Extra Choice has been charged with overcoming the outside barrier but should enjoy a great ride from Ben Melham.
Colonel Custer ($31)
Colonel Custer was luckless in running when seventh in the Geelong Classic last start, but will be partnered by Craig Williams in the Victoria Derby and will reportedly line up for the race in peak condition. Stamping his claims as one to watch upon debuting to racing for success in late July, Colonel Custer has continued to impress; running second in the James Boag’s Premium BM64 (1300m) before attacking the line for seventh in the Listed Hill Smith Stakes (1800m) on October 10th. Colonel Custer’s Victoria Derby odds are massively over value and the colt of more than worth consideration.
