Trainer Robbie Laing is confident that Polanski can take out the Group 1 Victoria Derby this Saturday November 2, 2013, after drawing barrier one for the race.
Polanski will be looking to win his third straight race start this weekend after saluting in his last two starts.
The three-year-old won his most recent run in the Group 3 Norman Robinson Stakes and will be out to recreate that result in the 2013 Victoria Derby.
Laing was over the moon with Polanski’s inside draw, especially considering the three favourite runners – Savvy Nature (13), Complacent (16) and Criterion (14)- have drawn outside gates.
“I said I wanted one and I got it,” Laing said.
“In his past two runs he has had to be used up early, but this time he is going to get the run of the race.
“He has good speed from the gates and I can see him getting on the back of San Diego, because he will push forward.
“He should get the right run and it will be up to Hugh Bowman to produce him at the right time.
“He has the best form in Melbourne and I’m sure he will run the trip out, so the good draw was the final thing we needed.
“With the other favoured ones drawing out, they are going to have to do a bit of work, which gives us an advantage.”
Polanski has won three of his eight race starts and has earned more $269,000 in prize money during his horse racing career.
