Famechon Aims To Break Maiden In 2013 Victoria Derby

October 31st, 2013

Jockey Dwayne Dunn is hoping he can continue the success of maideners this spring racing carnival when he rides Famechon in the 2013 Victoria Derby this Saturday.

With Seamus Award scoring his first ever career win in the $3 million Cox Plate last weekend, the scene has been set for it to happen once again in the Victoria Derby.

Famechon has scored three placings from his six career starts and has earned less than $20,000 in prize money during his career.

The three-year-old placed sixth in the Group 3 Norman Robinson Stakes at Caulfield last start and will be out to go five places better in the 2013 Victoria Derby.

Dunn is hopeful Famechon can turn his form around when he lines up at Flemington this weekend.

“He disappointed us at Caulfield. We expected a lot more of him there,” Dunn said.

“I think he jarred up on the track and seems like he wants a bit more cut in the ground.

“I was really impressed with his work on Tuesday morning so if he brings that to the races he’ll be competitive.

“He’s drawn really well which is another bonus.”

Famechon will jump from barrier four in the 2013 Victoria Derby, while most of the favourites drew wide gates.
