Victoria Derby 2013 On Romantic Touch’s Radar After Group 1 Win

June 12th, 2013

Romantic Touch could be on his way towards a start in the 2013 Victoria Derby after winning the Group 1 JJ Atkins in Brisbane last weekend.

The two-year-old won the $500,000 JJ Atkins by half a length in what was his very first attempt at Black Type racing.

Romantic Touch has won three of his five race starts and has earned more than $360,000 in prize money during his horse racing career.

The Northern Meteor gelding is trained by Gai Waterhouse at Royal Randwick and has won over distances ranging from 1,400 metres to 1,600 metres.

While Romantic Touch has not been tested over the 2013 Victoria Derby’s 2,500 metres, he will likely look at extending himself during the spring racing carnival.

Jockey Nash Rawiller also thinks that Romantic Touch would be perfectly suited to the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas on Saturday October 19, 2013.

“He’s the perfect racehorse and a race like the Caulfield Guineas would suit him down to the ground the way he races,” Rawiller said.

“To come from such humble beginnings and win a Group One race like this is an unbelievable performance.

“He’ll only keep improving because he feels like he’s just starting to grow into himself. It’s exciting times ahead.”

Romantic Touch is currently being spelled ahead of the Melbourne spring carnival in a few months time.
