Drago will target the Group 1 Victoria Derby on Saturday November 2, 2013, after posting his first career win at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse earlier this year.
The Danehill Dancer colt won the $85,000 Juvenile Stayer Stakes by an incredible four lengths on May 11, 2013.
Drago has had four starts in total and has earned more than $95,000 in prize money during his career.
The Anthony Cummings-trained colt finished a commendable fourth in both the Group 1 Sires’ Produce Stakes and the Group 1 Champagne Stakes at Royal Randwick Racecourse during the autumn racing carnival.
Now Cummings is confident he can move forward and finally claim a Group 1 win in a race such as the 2013 Victoria Derby.
Stable foreman Edward Cummings said Drago’s latest win was extremely important going into the spring carnival.
”He’s got the win now on his two-year-old resume and the prize money to have an easier transit into races like the Spring Champion Stakes and the VRC Derby,” he said.
”As a stallion prospect, and (with) a classic stamp on him, I’ll think it will be handy come the end of his three-year-old season.
“He’ll certainly get 10 furlongs and I can’t wait to see him over a mile and a half as a three-year-old.”
Bargain buy Polanski is another horse that is already being aimed at the 2013 Victoria Derby thanks to his last start win in the $80,000 Routley’s Handicap at Caulfield on May 11.
