2012 Victoria Derby Attracts 80 Nominations

September 25th, 2012

Nominations have been released for the Group 1 Victoria Derby, which is due to run at Flemington Racecourse on November 3, 2012.

A total of 80 three-year-old have been nominated for the 2012 Victoria Derby, including All Too Hard.

All Too Hard is looking to claim his first Group 1 title this spring after failing at his last two attempts.

The half-brother to Black Caviar won his first three race starts as a two-year-old, before being defeated by Pierro in the Group 1 Sires’ Produce Stakes in April.

He has failed to win a start since, with his first start back resulting in a third in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse on August 18.

All Too Hard then placed fifth in the Group 3 The Run To The Rose earlier this month, before posting a fourth in the Group 1 George Main Stakes last weekend.

The Casino Prince gelding has won three of his seven race starts and has earned more than $450,000 in prize money.

Also included in the 2012 Victoria Derby nominations is Kabayan, who finished fifth in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes last start.

While he is yet to be extended over a distance greater than 1,600 metres, trainer Gai Waterhouse is confident he will continue to excel over longer races.

Kabayan has won one of his five race starts and has earned more than $170,000 in prize money during his horse racing career.
