The first foal from legendary, three-time Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva is set to make their race debut this month on way to a run in the $1.5 million Victoria Derby (2500m) at the 2010 Spring Racing Carnival.
Three-year-old colt Rockstardom, the product of champion sire Galileo and Australia’s premier mare Makybe Diva, is being prepared to make his race debut this month by trainer Danny O’Brien.
Rockstardom will be hitting the tracks for the first time in a country maiden over the next fortnight, with O’Brien looking at Bendigo, Ballarat or Geelong for the debut race.
Purchased for a huge $1.5 million at the 2009 Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Rockstardom was impressive when claiming an all-the-way win in a 1200m hit-out at Geelong last week, with punters getting ready to back the colt at SportsBet in his maiden run.
If all goes to plan O’Brien has pencilled in the Victoria Derby at Flemington on October 30 for Rockstardom.
The 2010 Victoria Derby is the first Group 1 feature of the four-day Melbourne Cup Carnival and is the premier three-year-olds race of the year.
Rockstardom was Makybe Diva’s first foal since she retired from racing to serve as a broodmare in 2006.
This year at the 2009 Australian Easter Sale Makybe Diva’s second foal, a Fusaichi Pegasus filly sold for $1.2 million.
Her third foal was a colt by Encosta De Lago, she is due this month with a fourth foal by More Than Ready and is then booked to breed with the great Lonhro.
Blessed with one of the best bloodlines, Rockstardom is sure to be a favourite with the punters throughout his maiden campaign this spring.
